La Viscosa. Textile Factory
The exhibition “La Viscosa. Textile Factory” organized by the Estonian Textile Artists’ Union is dedicated to the rebirth of the imposing artificial silk factory founded in 1912 as the Viscosa Culture Factory and to Hiiumaa as an incredibly exciting island of textile industry. The artists also address the broader meaning of the Estonian textile industry and textiles as a material through architecture, logistics and women’s employment. The exhibition features 27 artists, the curators are Aet Ollisaar and Lylian Lainoja (Meister), the exhibition designer is Madis Liplap, and the graphic designer is Kadi Pajupuu. The exhibition is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. The exhibition runs from 20.06–31.10.2026.
The exhibition will take place in the Cathedral of the Viscosa Culture Factory and is paid, the exhibition ticket is shared with the exhibition of Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian painters “SMS. OK. WIFI. Baltic New Painting” taking place in the Viscosa Gallery.

Aet Ollisaar
Aet Ollisaar (1966) is a textile artist and lecturer who lives and works in Tartu. He graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a degree in textile art in 1991 and has worked as a professor and head of the textile department at the Pallas College of Art since 2000. 2024. In 2024, the artist received the Kristja Rau Award, the oldest art award in Estonia, and has twice been the recipient of the Estonian Textile Artists’ Union’s Textile Artist of the Year award (for her work in 2023 and 2007), and in 2011, she received a special award for her long-term work with young people. Aet Ollisaar has had several solo exhibitions in Estonia and abroad, and has participated in many juried exhibitions and group exhibitions. In recent years, her works have been produced in the creative environment Studio 100 located in the Aparaaditehasa in Tartu. Aet Ollisaar is a member of the Estonian Textile Artists’ Union (member of the board, since 2020 chairman of the board), a member of the Estonian Artists’ Union (member of the council since 2020), and belongs to the international organization Nordic Textile Art.
Lylian Meister
Lylian Meister (1966) is a textile artist. She graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a degree in textile art in 1989 and furthered her education in landscape architecture at the Räpina Horticulture School and the Luua Forestry School. 2009. In 2009, she received a special award at the Textile Artist of the Year 2008 competition and in 2012, the Kaido Ehasoo Award at the Tallinn Applied Art Triennial. Lylian Meistrili has had several solo exhibitions, and has also participated in numerous international group exhibitions and textile exhibitions across Europe. Her works are in the collections of the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and the Alta City Art Collection (Norway), as well as private collections in Germany, Norway, Russia, Finland, Sweden and Estonia.
